Beginning Monday, October 8, 2020, K-12 schools across Michigan must publicly within 24 hours any positive cases of COVID-19 connected to their facilities, according to an emergency order from Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The Order requires Districts to post a disclosure when “a case of probable or confirmed COVID-19 amongst student, teachers, staff members, coaches, volunteers, or any other person who was present on school property or at a school function under circumstances that may result in the transmission or contraction of COVID-19 during their infectious period.
In our effort to be transparent, New Buffalo Area Schools will send out information about cases in our district.
All positive COVID-19 cases among New Buffalo Area Schools staff and students will be posted on the Berrien RESA COVID-19 Dashboard at Berrien RESA COVID-19 Dashboard
- New Buffalo Area Schools will work with the Berrien County Health Department to conduct contact tracing. Those individuals who are determined to have been in close contact with the COVID-19 positive or probable staff or student will be personally contacted by someone from the Health Department with additional guidance.
- New Buffalo Area Schools will conduct additional deep cleaning of the classroom, office, bus or other space that was occupied by the COVID-19 positive or probable individual. The cleaning will be performed in accordance with United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) guidelines.
