Welcome to New Buffalo Elementary School!  The elementary building has approximately 261 students in grades PreK-5.  Each section has two teachers per grade level. Class sizes range from 18 to 22 students.  We strive to provide your child the best educational experience as possible.

I am entering my 3rd year as the building principal at New Buffalo Elementary, but 14 years in the district.  My family and I enjoy all the wonderful things New Buffalo has to offer. My children attend NBES and are active in many of the community events.  Frequently, you will see us out and about, participating in some of the local events that our community has to offer. We love the summertime in New Buffalo because it feels as if you are always on vacation here.

In the 2019 - 2020 school year the elementary will focus on engaging families and place emphasis on building positive relationships with parents and students.  The elementary will continue to increase student growth and achievement in all subject areas using NWEA and M-STEP as measurement tools. Staff members will continue to align ELA topics and formative assessments to individualize instruction.  And finally, we entered a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) cohort with the Berrien RESA to improve our efforts in recognizing positive behaviors among our students.

As your building principal, student academic success is my number one priority, while ensuring your child feels safe during their learning experiences.  New Buffalo Elementary School has many resources to meet the wide range of needs of our students. NBES is the best place to be when it comes to learning.  Class sizes remain small to ensure we give each and every child the attention that they need. Kindergarten through first grade are 1-to-1 iPads, while second through fifth grade are 1-to-1 Chromebooks.  The curriculum is rigorous and consistently measured to make sure all students are understanding topics being presented. Professional development is offered frequently to ensure staff members are up to date with current teaching practices.

Children are provided learning opportunities in the areas of art, music, physical education, Spanish, library, technology, and weekly guidance lessons.  If a child meets qualifications, they may be provided additional support in Title I, Speech and Language, or Special Education. There are many after school activities that are provided by our B.A.S.E. program.  Please be sure to check in with our B.A.S.E. Director, Rodney Wash, to be cognizant of the after school events.

I look forward to a great, positive year with you and your student(s).  Parents are first and foremost the most important aspect in student learning.  A strong partnership between the school and home is paramount. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything.  I can be reached at 269-469-6060, email, or in person.  Here’s to a great 2019 - 2020 school year.  Go Bison!
