Mr. Brunner
  • Hello - my name is Mr. Brunner and I am the new principal of New Buffalo Middle School (NBMS)! It is my pleasure to serve this wonderful school community and I look forward to working with students, teachers, and New Buffalo families to provide a high-quality learning experience this school year!

I was a classroom teacher for ten years and a principal for five years. Throughout my experience in public education, I have learned that the best school districts value positive and caring relationships as a foundation for learning. At NBMS, the highly-skilled teaching staff leverages positive student-teacher relationships for student academic success. New Buffalo is consistently recognized nationally and in the State of Michigan for its academic outcomes measured by the NWEA, M-STEP, and PSAT. Equally as important, New Buffalo is also recognized as a great place to raise a family.

NBMS has approximately one hundred and fifty students in grades sixth through eighth and class sizes range from approximately fourteen to twenty students. Smaller class sizes allow for a greater investment of the teacher’s time and attention in personalizing each student’s education. Additionally, smaller class sizes allow the teacher and school officials to carefully monitor the students

social-emotional growth and development. For students who require extra support or additional accommodations, NBMS offers comprehensiveremediation and intervention opportunities such as Homework Club, Advisory, and a highly skilled student services department.

NBMS values a well-rounded education for students. Therefore, students are offered learning opportunities that go beyond the core subject areas. Course offerings include subjects in art, music, physical education, Spanish, health, and Smartlab. The middle school also offers extracurricular activities such as choir, band, basketball, cross country, and track among many others.
I look forward to a positive and safe 2020/21 school year. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by phone at 269-469-6002, or email at
