EMERGENCY CHILD CARE FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS

  • Executive Order 2020-16 calls upon Michigan’s ISDs to coordinate community efforts to support child care needs for essential workers during the COVID-19 crisis. Berrien RESA, Lewis Cass ISD and Van Buren ISD are answering the call and have developed a plan in collaboration with Southwest Child Care Resources and United Way of Southwest Michigan, and in special partnership with the YMCA of Michiana.

The plan asks essential workers (as defined in Executive Order 2020-16) find help by calling the statewide assistance number 2-1-1 or by visiting www.help me grow-mi.org/essential. Once a worker’s information has been collected, a local representative will contact the essential worker within 24-48 hours to assist in finding an open child care facility with capacity to address child care needs.

Local districts are encouraged to post information on their websites using the attached social media badge and linking the badge to https://www.helpmegrow-mi.org/essential.

Academic State Champs

  • New Buffalo Area Schools is a 2018 Academic State Champs School District

New Buffalo Area Schools was honored on February 13th with a 2018 Academic State Champion School District by Bridge Magazine.

Only 30 school district statewide received this honor. Those honored are published on Bridge’s website.

New Buffalo Area Schools and other 2018 Academic State Champs are honored for how much students progress from third to eighth grade, using a Stanford University analysis of more than 500 public school district in Michigan. The research was part of national study of millions of students that measured academic performance and a host of socioeconomic data, from income and family structure to income and family education.

Bridge Magazine will feature a Compare Your School District Tool so educators and parents can compare student growth with neighboring districts, peers, or really any school district across the state.

Bridge Magazine welcome educators and parents to wear your Academic State Champ label with pride. The report includes a simple way for anyone in our district to receive free Academic State Champs bumper stickers.

Congratulation Staff and Students for the hard work and dedication.
