Under Michigan’s Youth Employment Standards Act (YESA), teens under the age of 18 need a work permit before starting a job. Michigan uses an online system called the Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP), which replaces the old process where teens had to visit their school office to get physical permits signed.
Through YEPP, teens and employers can handle the entire work permit application online by logging into a MiLogin account. Any valid work permits issued by schools before October 2, 2026, remain valid, but if your child switches employers or applies for a new job, they will need to use the YEPP portal to get their new permit.

The New Buffalo Education Association invites community members to a School Board Candidate Forum & Meet-and-Greet on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at New Buffalo Middle/High School.
The student-moderated forum will take place from 6:00–7:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). High school student government representatives will ask candidates questions from a predetermined list, with equal response time provided to each candidate.
Following the forum, a meet-and-greet will take place from 7:00–7:30 PM in the cafeteria commons. This portion of the evening offers community members an opportunity to speak with candidates and ask questions individually.
Two seats are open on the New Buffalo Area Schools Board of Education.
Doors open at 5:45 PM. Attendees should enter through Door 12, the PAC entrance.
Community members are encouraged to attend and learn more about the candidates before voting this fall.

Due to equipment issues the Fitness Center at our Middle School/High School will be CLOSED Saturday (9/26) and Sunday (9/27). It will reopen Monday morning (9/28) at 6:00am

Failure to complete the enrollment process may delay the distribution of important items and information, including student technology, class schedules, and locker assignments.
Also if you are in need of transportation, you must indicate that need in PowerSchool.
Please also be aware that students who are not fully enrolled should not be participating in athletics at this time. Completing enrollment promptly will help ensure that your student is ready for the start of the school year and can participate in all school activities.
Even though school meals are free, families need to continue sharing household income information on the education benefits form, available at https://newbuffalo.familyportal.cloud/
This information helps our schools receive access to federal and state funding for educational programs.

We have been BUSY over the Summer!
After the School Board meeting last night, Mark German, Director of Operations did a walk through with members of the School Board to see the progress of the improvements we have made to the Middle/High School as well as the Sports Multiplex.
New Buffalo Area Schools used the General Fund Obligated Bond to make these improvements. From replacing an outdated boiler system to improvements to parking lots and sidewalks, as well as state of the art sports surfaces. These improvements will not only be great for students but the community of New Buffalo as well.
We'll keep you updated as more of these projects are completed.

New Buffalo Bison Marching Band will host a Preview performance is at 4:30pm at the football field TODAY (Friday Aug. 7th). Guests can park at the football parking lot (between the field and Oselka park). Spectators will sit in the home side stands and will get a preview of their show for the season, along with some activities showing off what we've done this week. Plus you'll have a chance to see our new field in person. Go Bison!
