Dear New Buffalo Families,
We are thrilled to officially welcome Caroline Fortunato as our new High School Principal!
Principal Fortunato is already a familiar face in our community. She joined New Buffalo High School in 2019 as a social studies teacher and most recently served as our Student Advocate, leading key academic, attendance, and wellness initiatives. She holds a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan and an M.A. in Social Studies Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. With over 10 years of experience in secondary education—beginning her career at West Orange High School in New Jersey—she brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion for student success to this role.
"I have been fortunate to work alongside incredible teachers and educators throughout my career," says Principal Fortunato. "One of the things I look forward to most is continuing to support and collaborate with the exceptional staff at New Buffalo High School as we help every student succeed."
On a personal note, Caroline lives locally with her husband, Cory, their two daughters, Zoe and Parker, and their dog, Summer.
Please join us in giving Principal Fortunato a warm welcome into her new role. We are excited for a fantastic school year ahead under her leadership!
Warm regards,
Adam Bowen

Due to an incident in New Buffalo Township earlier this morning, July 10th, 2026, New Buffalo High School and summer camp were temporarily placed in "Secure" status. The “Secure” status has since been lifted after it was determined to be safe. Our Summer Day Camp staff along with our SRO and our notification system worked flawlessly.

"Secure" status means no person may enter or exit the building. "Secure" status does not affect any activity inside the building. Follow New Buffalo Police Department as well as Michigan and Indiana State Police for further updates. Below image sent to NBAS this morning from New Buffalo Police Department.
